For the 4th year in a row, our dojo is adopting a family for the holidays. We have a huge family this year–10 kids, most of them in the foster system. They need warm clothes, toys, and Safeway gift cards. If you’d like to contribute, take a look at the list and put your name down next to an item. If you prefer, you can give me a check and I’ll use it to buy whatever the family still needs at the end of the drive. It would be great to also give art supplies, books, and the like, if we can meet their primary needs first. It’s a wonderful time to be grateful for what we have and to share whatever we can. Let’s give them an abundant holiday and let them know we care! And if donating doesn’t work for you this year, no worries—we’re all doing the best we can. Thanks so much!
We’ll be having a party on Friday, December 13th, 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Dojo. You don’t have to be skilled at wrapping or even want to wrap. You can just lounge in your Roman guard and eat a sugar cookie.
First off, I want to say thank you to Jordan and Jocelyn Dodge and the Santa Cruz Fight Club for continuing to do the hard work of bringing us these tournaments and improving each time. Once again we had a blast at the IFK PKB Muay Thai SCFC5!
On Saturday November 9th, we entered 5 competitors, 4 Muay Thai fighters and one boxer, into this tournament, and won it!
Most of us were surprised, but Damian wasn’t. Despite our small team he believed we could take the trophy and led the charge into battle securing the first victory of the day, setting the tone for what was to follow.
Nick and Logan went on to win two fights each and nice pairs of gloves from Blackout. Nick took the tournament belt for his division. Moksha secured the win with a quick right hand, while Isaiah lost his bouts, but showed excellent grit and technique in his fights.
Big congratulations to Nick, Logan, Damian, Moksha, and Isaiah for going out and getting the business done. They all fought extremely well and did us proud! Here are some photos.
Here’s a list of upcoming Tournaments and Smokers for anyone interested in garnering competition experience in Kickboxing, Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu and/or Submission Grappling. It’s a good idea to follow the links to each tournament and read the rules and regulations for each one, because they are not always exactly the same. This list is not necessarily exhaustive, but the ones I could find fairly easily.
Feb 4th, Kaijin Fight Night Four, Kickboxing/Boxing Smoker, Santa Cruz

Hey Folks, a couple announcements about the schedule at FreeFall MMA.
Because the building permit issue has displaced an exercise class at Toadal Fitness, we’re delaying starting the Wrestling Class till February. Maybe sooner, if the room is ready sooner. Sorry for the delay, that part is beyond my control. In the meantime though, there are plenty of Brazlian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA classes. We even have a Judo class with Souley Ongoiba on Fridays 12 – 1:30 PM!
Tomorrow, we’re pretty excited that Caren Elise Camblin is teaching her first class at FreeFall MMA, Jiu-Jitsu 12 – 1:30 PM tomorrow (Wed)!
MMA Stretching Class Added
I’ve made a slight change to the schedule that I think you’ll like, because I hear a lot of you complaining about your flexibility. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 9:30 PM will be a designated time to work on your flexibility for those high kicks or those crazy lasso and rubber guards. That’s right, a dedicated time for Stretching! It’s going to be called Stretching for MMA.
Today’s (Tues 5) Schedule is
Jiu-Jitsu 6:45 – 8:00 PM
Muay Thai 8:00 – 9:00 PM
Stretching: 9:00 – 9:30 PM
Caren and I would like to invite you all to please come join us for Open Mat on New Year’s Day to see the new space and begin 2016 in the correct stance! The address is 1280 17th Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. The doors will be open 12 – 4 PM. The first day of official classes will be Monday, January 4th with Muay Thai from 6:20 – 7:30 PM, Jiu-Jitsu from 7:30 – 8:30 PM, and MMA from 8:30 – 9:30 PM.
We will also be hosting a grand opening party at the end of January, details to be announced, so stay alert for that announcement.
In the meantime, we want to wish everyone a Happy Yuletide and thank you all for the love and support, both for the new school and for Dustin’s pro debut. Here’s to great things to come and a truly excellent 2016!
December will be a big month for Santa Cruz-born MMA fighters. Luke Rockhold will contend with Chris Weidman for the UFC Middle Weight Title on December 12th, in a very highly anticipated match up.
And now, we’re happy to announce that before we even open the doors, Freefall MMA fighter Dustin Moore will make his professional debut at Bellator 147 on Friday, December 4th, 2015 at The Event Center at San Jose State University (opponent to be announced)!
Very important: From a promotional point of view fighters, like musicians, get judged on their draw, so please show your support for the hometown kid by using his last name ‘Moore’ in the Offer Code section when you buy tickets. This is HUGE for Dustin! Click the following link to purchase tickets (using the code ‘Moore’):
Given that this tremendous opportunity comes on such short notice the Professional licensing process for Dustin is going to rack up some expenses, largely due to the several medical exams and procedures he has to go through outside of his health network in order to get them done on time. Toward that end we are selling these Team Moore T-shirts to help offset the cost. You can buy this shirt and/or simply make a donation via Paypal to support Dustin in this monumental move forward in his MMA career. Click on the Photo to Pre-Order this shirt!
